Do you remember the car you were driving when you passed your driving test? This is mine: 1989 Chevy Cavalier Z24.

I was driving a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire that belonged to the driving school our high school used. The best thing about it was that the (ten years older) Toyota Celica I ended up driving in high school was better in every conceivable way.

I took whatever I could get, it was never the same car on any given day. All manual transmissions, at least!

My dad had the Oldsmobile equivalent, Silhouette maybe? It was pretty decent.

At least yours has nicer seats! I had an Olds Omega for a time, same thing as far as I could tell. The 4 spd was a little crazy to drive - 3rd gear was a bit high for around town, 4th was like overdrive and useless around town...

My mom’s old 99 suburban. Made me paralell park and marked me down when I was more than 6 inches from the curb. I nearly had the nerve to get out and show me how to do it better because it was all guess work at that point.

1981 VW Jetta diesel 4-door manual. I was amazed it would do 40 in second. I also learned to use more gas pedal to keep it running when cold so i didn’t have to use the choke. Usually that involved LOTS of smoke out the pipe. Fun in the school parking lot.

1997 BMW 328i sedan..

Silhouette. Our Montana was pretty beat, so we ended up with a Sienna... if you compared them back to back as NEW vehicles, I’d have the Montana.

Sure, the then brand new 2000 Ford Focus (manual, diesel, hatch, blue) my driving school had.

I’m surprised at the number of trucks people used for their driving tests but I would have used anything I could get my hands on if it stood between childhood and FREEDOM!

My dad said if you can get your license in this truck you can drive it to school and I'll give you $100. Needless to say I had a truck and 100 for my first weekend with my license.

I took my test in February 1992, in my stepfather’s 1984 300ZX (non-turbo, automatic, not even t-tops). I was nervous, that is until the tester got in the car with my new license on his clipboard. I suspected I’d have to really screw up to not get it, so it put me at ease. During the test the speedometer failed. Still got my license.

A 1983 1982 Olds Cruiser. Pitifully slow with a 2bbl 3.8 and 200r4 trans.
We actually towed a 3000lb boat and trailer with this lump. I think Dad wanted it to die so he could justify buying something else. It wouldn’t die. Even in my 16 year old hands it wouldn’t freaking die! The worst that ever happened was the flywheel cracking during a nasty neutral drop.
